Coming into Los Angeles…

January 22, 2012

I always resonated with that rebellious song by Arlo Guthrie!  I wish I would have seen him at Woodstock but I was only in 9th grade.  Many decades later, I finally did get to see him in Ocean City, NJ  – and he sounded great!

On a recent flight to California, his song popped into my mind, followed by these new lyrics.

“Coming into Los Angeles, Bringing in a couple of these, But don’t touch my bags, if you please, I’m in need of these, man.”

You might wonder, “What are “these” things?  Well, don’t leave home without them!  Here is my own personal survival pack from the CarbLightLiving™ Travel Store:

  1. Bran Crispbreads – 2 packs
  2. 12 Quest Bars (including Chocolate Brownie, Peanut Butter Supreme, Vanilla Almond Crunch)
  3. Six 1.25 ounce bags of Planters NUTrition nuts (cashews, almonds, and macadamias)
  4. Six 100 calorie bags of Blue Diamond BOLD Wasabi & Soy Sauce almonds
  5. Six 100 calorie bags of Blue Diamond Chocolate dusted almonds
  6. Four Dixie Diner Cranberry Almond Stick Bars

Why is this so important?  You want choices!
True Story:  We are flying on US Airways to attend a convention in California. I was up until 2:30 AM the night before, writing the post on “It’s a 2 Time Veg,” so I just wanted a nice meal. What? There are only 2 choices: Cheese Manicotti and Beef Strips  available in First Class?  Nothing for a low carber – that’s for sure!

I asked the cabin steward if there was a cheese tray and he replied the only cheese available is on the main cabin menu  – a Fruit and Cheese Platter for $8.00.  He noticed my immediate interest and offered to get me one before it sold out!  Was I ever lucky – I got the LAST one! I then had to help Shrinking Man make a better choice, since, after all these months, he actually ordered the cheese raviolis!  Ugh!  He happily gave them up once he found out that he could order the “Chicken Cobb Salad” ($8.00) from the main cabin menu.  So much for First Class food options!  At least the seats are bigger!

The moral of the story is this – you can low carb it anywhere – even at 37,000 feet above the ground!
